Midjourney, Leonardo, Adobe, Ideogram, Or Blue Willow: Which One Is The Best For Image…
AI image generators work like magic. But are these tools smart enough to understand cultural subtleties?
AI image generators work like magic.
Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Ideogram, Leonardo AI, or DALL-E 3 create stunning visuals suitable for nearly every possible purpose.
But are AI image generators smart enough to understand cultural nuances?
Can you use these tools to create images that resonate with local consumers?
What about adding a text in foreign languages?
After analyzing the potential of Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Ideogram, Leonardo AI, and Blue Willow for image localization, I decided to summon these powerful magicians for the ultimate battle.
The battle of AI image generators competing for the title of the Best Image Localizer.
Let the battle begin.
1. Local language
AI image generators often struggle with embedding texts on images. If you decide to add text in a language other than English, you’re embarking on a mission impossible.
And that’s where the first battle begins.
Prompt: The text “Immer eine tolle Überraschung!” written in green pastel colors, flying UFOs behind the text
Adobe Firefly failed this quest miserably by claiming my prompt uses a language the tool doesn’t support at this time. It decided to generate nada.
While some of the images above are aesthetically pleasing, none of the tools was able to display the German text correctly. A similar problem appeared when I ran a prompt with texts from other languages such as Polish, Dutch, or Chinese. Results were acceptable only for English and, in some cases — Spanish.
Mission impossible remains… impossible.
2. Local people
If local languages pose a major challenge, let’s see how the tools can deal with local people. That’s another component of creating images tailored to specific cultures.
Prompt: A portrait of a happy young Indian lady dressed in traditional Indian sari
Nearly all the tools — except Ideogram — generated stunning and realistic visuals. It all comes down to personal preference. My favorite is the one generated by Blue Willow. How about you?
3. Local events
In this battle round let’s take our beautifully generated people to local events to see if AI image generators can display cultural nuances in this dimension.
Prompt: A photo of crowds of people on the boats in the canals of Amsterdam during the local King’s Day holiday
Ideogram failed this round again. Although the canals resemble Amsterdam, two key ingredients are missing: crowds and sharpness. Leonardo AI took the “crowds” to an extreme level. The most realistic is the image from Midjourney — it reflects the vibrant atmosphere of the Dutch King’s Day that I found myself experiencing half a dozen times already.
4. Local interiors
It’s getting cold outside, so let’s take our experiments with cultures indoors.
Here’s round number 4.
Prompt: A photo of a Moroccan-inspired lounge with vibrant colors and intricate designs. The floor is covered with ornate Berber rugs, and plush floor cushions form a seating area around a brass tray table.
Midjourney and Blue Willow deserve the place on the podium for this round. The other images are not sharp and not realistic enough.
5. Local food
All this prompting made my stomach rumble. Let’s finish off with a proper vegetarian meal from Chinese cuisine.
Here’s the final battle:
Prompt: A bowl full of Chinese vegetarian chow mein with vegetables and noodles
I love what Adobe and Midjourney served me this time. These two are my personal favorites. Which dish would you choose?
Final thoughts
Which AI image generator can become your go-to tool for creating culturally specific images?
The choice is not easy.
Picking the ultimate winner seems like another mission impossible. It all depends on the culture you want to depict, on how detailed your prompt is, and, finally, on your taste. In the battle above, Midjourney seems to lead the pack. However, it’s worth juggling with many prompts and tools to find the right result for your particular localization scenario.
